It's Simple

The purpose of today's GOP is move money from the 99% to the 1%. The rest of the cultural stuff such as abortion, contraception, birtherism, gay bashing, same sex marriage, all of it is just red meat to feed the rubes. They don't care anything about the 99% except as worker bees on their plantations. IF they can keep the rubes scared and hungry then the rubes won't be worried about anything but their own skins and empty stomachs and not how they are being screwed at every turn.

I do love the way you Lefties despise your fellow Americans and claim for yourselves the only intelligence in the land.  Do you seriously suppose that Americans who vote Republican are truly mouth-dribbling "rubes" who are capable of voting against their own best interests?

THe short answer is  yes but David, you read an awful lot into what I posted and obviously don't actually understand what I wrote. I clearly didn't write that I despise my fellow countrymen but I will allow that "we lefties" are apparently the only people in the land with any compassion and sense of fair play. IF you look at the evidence of who votes Republican you will find that most vote on some cultural level whether it be anti gay, anti social safety net or any of the other "red meat" issues the GOP stirs into the mix to inflame the base. Seriously, just look at who they elect. If you think having the likes of Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, or Rick Santorum as serious presidential candidates is a testament to the sanity of the typical GOP voter then have at it. There are, of course, others that vote for the GOP besides the rubes that actually, in great numbers, vote against their own self interest and they are the smaller number who vote because "they have theirs so screw you" and the GOP works very hard to protect those.
I live in the heart of GOP land. I talk to these people almost everyday and I know what drives their vote. I see both the "screw you wealthy" and the rubes who will vote for the Republican party even though that same GOP shill is going to disallow him to provide medical care for his family, have a decent job at a fair wage and insure that he and surely his children are going to die a slow death by environmental suicide.

I totally agree with you.  Well said.

So you think that anyone with a very healthy fear of an all-powerful government machine controlling labour markets, health markets, income levels, matters of personal morality and where and when national investment should take place are just 'a bunch of 'stoopid rubes'.  And yet roughly half your fellow countrymen do have just that fear.  It opens the question of what you would do to them were you to gain power for any length of time?

Wrong again David. It is not an "all powerful government" but an all powerful plutocracy controlled by a very small cadre of very wealthy people. Like I said earlier....were I to have any power whatsoever it would at least be power with a sense of compassion and fair play. You continue to falsely believe that a majority of Americans and most conservative voters are a literate and well informed constituency and there is very little that is further from the truth I'm very sorry to say.

On the contrary, I would guess that there is virtually no discernible difference between either side which is what makes your constant diatribes agains them so extraordinary given that they are "fellow Americans".  And socialists of your ilk do require a huge and powerful government to implement your programmes.  To fear that is sensible because not all socialists areas compassionate as you, FM - as history does show! By the way , why does your comment box not expand to allow a full comment?

"And socialists of your ilk" From you who lives in Britain, gets paid a pension from a socialist government and has universal health care----hypocrite.

From me who lives in Britain and is paid a pension from a non-existent fund because although I paid into it every month of my working life the lying liars who ran the country never saved it, instead they spent it on other things trying to buy votes.  So there is no fund, my pension is paif for out of current taxation raised on those working today..  Likewise with the Nationalised health service which is gradually being privatised because it is increasingly evident, even to those who don't want to see, that it is unaffordable because of its inherent inefficiency.  Also, I should add that I paid into a private pension scheme precisely because I wouldn't trust a government-run scheme as far as I could piss inot a gale!

(FM, I wish you'd get rid of that irritating bar across the middle of the Comments box which means that you can't see part of what you are writing.)

Duffer, you are many exasperating things, but mostly you are just one tiresome, self-repetitive, self-pitying son-of-a-bitch. I'm glad I didn't notice this thread until today; that fact spared me several days of your abject whining.
