If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people - their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties - someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad; if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." - John F. Kennedy

Distraction is the Game
Bill Maher posts over at Huffington in response to Congressman Bachus and his attack over Bill's frsutration and remark concerning the lack of success in the U.S. recruiting efforts recently. It points out a clear fact the we on the left don't pay attention to often enough. A common tactic of the extremist right is to shift the dialogue to some small fraction of the overall conversation and ignore the whole conversation. Focus on some bit of the dialogue that can be taken out of context and turned into a controvesial hook to distract from the overall conversation. Bill does a good job of bringing the subject back to the real issue and that is all the time we are spending wringing our hands over bullshit instead of the important stuff. We really need to pay attention and keep redirecting the dialogue to where it needs to be.
