Backbone Missing

Here is the headline from Rawstory "As rhetoric builds, Democrats in Congress lie low on Iran"
Most aides refused to speculate whether Democrats might support a military operation in Iran. Several aides acknowledged, however, that some Democrats in Congress could support a military strike. If it was presented with clear and damning evidence of an Iranian nuclear program, aides said, Bush might be able to get Congressional authorization for the use of force.

I can't say how disappointed this makes me. Now is not the time to pussyfoot around and wait for opinion polls and focus groups. Now is the time to make your opposition to another stupid war known high and low and loudly. This is criminally stupid folks.

I cannot imagine any evidence that would justify another violent, pre-emptive foray into the Middle East or anywhere. This kind of mincing around by the supposed opposition party is why we have ourselves mired in Iraq and spending lives and and ever increasing amount of treasure.
In another story from Rawstory

With the expected passage this spring of the largest emergency spending bill in history, annual war expenditures in Iraq will have nearly doubled since the U.S. invasion, as the military confronts the rapidly escalating cost of repairing, rebuilding and replacing equipment chewed up by three years of combat. The cost of the war in U.S. fatalities has declined this year, but the cost in treasure continues to rise, from $48 billion in 2003 to $59 billion in 2004 to $81 billion in 2005 to an anticipated $94 billion in 2006, according to the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.

The U.S. government is now spending nearly $10 billion a month in Iraq and Afghanistan, up from $8.2 billion a year ago, a new Congressional Research Service report found. Annual war costs in Iraq are easily outpacing the $61 billion a year that the United States spent in Vietnam between 1964 and 1972, in today's dollars.
(highlighting mine)
The is serious money honey! Can you imagine what it would do domestically? Hello...less than a month's worth of Iraq quagmire spending would repair and improve the levees around NOLA so that we would never have another aftermath like Katrina's.

I want some opposition to this mad man and I want it now! I disagree with the theory "Give the GOP enough rope and they will hang themselves." We gave them rope with Iraq and they have now managed to hang it around our necks and are dragging us over a cliff.

No more war period.
